About the Author
Katie Reus is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Red Stone Security series, the Moon Shifter series and the Deadly Ops series. She fell in love with romance at a young age thanks to books she pilfered from her mom's stash. Years later she loves reading romance almost as much as she loves writing it. However, she didn't always know she wanted to be a writer. After changing majors many times, she finally graduated with a degree in psychology. Not long after that she discovered a new love. Writing. She now spends her days writing dark paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense.

Enjoyable Romantic Supsense
By Jacqueline
3-1/2 stars rounded up. Quite enjoyable romantic suspense. I liked the strong heroine and the relationship she had with the man (her adopted father) who saved her life at 15. The hero was well written, a strong competent man. The heroine was also competent. The action was pretty believable and well written. The sex scenes were well done. They weren't too soon or too many. The heat level was fresh and well written.
The only real problem I had with the book was the end where the story lost momentum. There were two bad guys and one of them was sort of lame and probably wouldn't have done what he did. Then the relationship aspect drug on a bit. That might be fairly realistic but didn't fit as cleanly into a novel as I would have liked. Still I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Not Enough Elastic in the World to Stretch Believability This Far
By Connie
Here's what you must be willing to believe in order to enjoy this book (keep in mind that you must swallow all of these, not just a couple)
** a former NAVY SEAL who has enough government connections to change the identity of a child found with gunshot wounds and adopt her, but not enough to find out who she is
** an adult who has no memories of her life prior to age 8 even those were eight great years not requiring any suppression
** a reclusive wealthy family who accidentally stumbles over a picture of an up-and-coming underwater photographer that just happens to be a long-lost relative
** a villain who hasn't seen his victim since she was a teenager and also stumbles across her photo twelve years later instantly recognizing her
** a need for revenge because of a couple of scars that is the crucial element for the villain's motivation when he could have easily lived happily ever after in anonymity
** an obvious suspect in a major plot point in the book who is evidently not thoroughly investigated at the time of the incident on which the novel is based
Katie Reus has written many suspense novels with sexy guys and smart girls. For the first time in a Reus novel, we have a female lead who fits into the TSTL category. I was exhausted by the number of times she made lame decisions.
** If your adoptive father is a former navy SEAL in good health and you are receiving threatening phone calls, but you don't tell your father who has connections to government operatives.
** You are being tracked by a killer and are with a man who owns a fabulously successful security company, but you DON'T TELL HIM you know who is after you!
** The villain has someone you love so you SNEAK AWAY from your bodyguard
** You get mad because the man who loves you is able to track you and come to your rescue
** You kick out the man who has shown he loves you and are mad that he leaves when you tell him to.
The heroine isn't the only one who falls into the too stupid to live category. Imagine you are on the run and are guarding the woman you love most in your life because there is a killer after her. Would you leave her outside of a cottage tanning, while you go off to run an errand? Even more ludicrous is the fact that the errand that is suddenly so essential that day relates to a twelve year old issue that could be resolved in the coming weeks without putting your loved one in danger.
The dialogue frequently doesn't ring true which is also unlike Katie Reus.
"She opened her mouth to respond, when a loud boom erupted. Like a bus backfire, except that it echoed across the water."
"What's going on?" Maria shouted over the chaos.
"That was a gunshot." Wow! Didn't see that one coming, Sherlock.
There were a number of subplots that also impeded the enjoyment of the story, including the relationship of the rich couple and discussions about sabotage within the family business that had no direct tie in with the main story. It felt like we were being set up awkwardly for a sequel featuring a spoiled relative who wasn't particularly likable in the first book.
If you haven't read Katie Reus before don't start here. If you have, I'd download a sample before buying this one.

Excellent story. April in OR
By April in Oregon
Wow, what a story for the price. This had it all, the connection between Luke and Hope was excellent. When you finally find out what happened to Hope you so hope that she gets her revenge. The sex was good, the story had a nice beginning and a very satisfying ending. It's rare that you get a full story for the price of .99 cents.
